Starting a private nursing practice

Get the operating foundation in place.

Care Start-up helps with three practical setup tasks: company registration, a business bank account and a practice-number application. It does not grant professional permission to provide a service or guarantee approval by CIPC, a bank, BHF/PCNS or a medical scheme.

A nurse's professional registration and scope, the chosen business structure, tax position, services and billing model all need separate consideration. Start with official guidance and seek professional advice where your circumstances require it.

A registration checklist is useful, but a sustainable practice starts with clarity about the work, responsibilities and billing model.

  • Professional position

    Confirm that your SANC registration is current and understand the scope and professional rules relevant to the services you plan to offer.

  • Practice model

    Decide what services the practice will provide, where they will be delivered and whether you are starting alone or with a team.

  • Business and tax choices

    Choose a structure with advice appropriate to your circumstances, and confirm current CIPC and SARS responsibilities rather than assuming one setup fits every practice.

  • Billing route

    Decide whether you will invoice patients directly, submit medical aid claims, or use both routes, because this changes the information and workflow you need.

Care Start-upDo I need Start-up if I have a practice number?
No. Start-up is for healthcare professionals who need registration, a bank account and a practice number. If you already have those, go straight to Nurse, Nurse Plus or Practitioner.
Does Start-up include medical aid claims?
Start-up includes two free months of Care Nurse or Care Nurse Plus (you choose). Nurse excludes claims; Nurse Plus includes claims up to your monthly claim threshold. Care Practitioner is not part of the free-months offer.
What is the launch price?
Launch price is R2 100 once-off (was R2 500), including two free months of Nurse or Nurse Plus, then your chosen plan continues on a 12-month subscription.

After setup

Choose the workflow that matches the practice.

Care Nurse supports a solo practice without medical aid claim submission. Care Nurse Plus adds claims for one practitioner. Care Practitioner is designed for multi-practitioner practices.
